Help and support

Something not working, or have an idea for Framecap? Check the answers below first. If you are still stuck, send an email to ahmedarslan599@gmail.com. Tell us what you tried, your Chrome version and your computer (Windows, Mac or Chromebook), and we will get back to you, usually within a day or two.

My video has no sound from the tab or computer

Turn on System audio in Framecap before you press Start. Then, in Chrome’s sharing window, keep Also share tab audio (or Also share system audio) switched on. Chrome can’t record sound from a single app window, so pick a tab or your entire screen if you need sound. Sharing the entire screen with sound works on Windows and Chromebook.

My voice is not recorded or sounds too quiet

Make sure the microphone switch is on and the right microphone is selected in the list. If Chrome blocked the microphone, open chrome://settings/content/microphone and remove Framecap from the blocked list. Speak at a normal distance from the mic. If your voice sounds cut off between words, set Noise reduction in Settings to Standard or Off.

The camera doesn’t show up

Close other apps that may be using the camera, such as Zoom, Teams or another browser tab, then open Framecap again. If Chrome blocked the camera, open chrome://settings/content/camera and remove Framecap from the blocked list. On Windows, also open Settings, then Privacy, then Camera, and make sure desktop apps are allowed to use it.

The camera looks choppy on my laptop

Keep Settings → Quality on Auto. It picks a quality your computer records smoothly, and if a recording still stutters, the next one uses a step lower. Older or 2-core laptops usually get 720p with the camera on. You can also choose a lower quality yourself.

Long recordings of an hour or more

There is no time limit, and a recording does not get slower or heavier the longer it runs. Laptops slow themselves down after the first minute to stay cool, so Framecap watches how the recording is going and lowers the frame rate when your computer cannot keep up. A steady 15 frames a second looks much better than 30 that keeps freezing, and your camera keeps moving. The frame rate goes back up on its own once there is room again.

For a recording of several hours, close apps you do not need, keep the laptop somewhere it can get air, and leave it plugged in. Auto quality uses a lower setting on battery.

Where are my recordings saved?

Every recording is saved inside Chrome on your own computer while you record. Open My recordings in Framecap to watch, rename, download or delete them. Recordings are never uploaded. If you uninstall Framecap or clear your browser data, saved recordings are deleted, so download the ones you want to keep.

Chrome or my computer crashed while recording

Open Framecap again and go to My recordings. Framecap saves your video every second, so the recording will be there, marked as Recovered, with everything up to the last second or two before the crash.

How do I cut the start or end of a video?

Open the video (right after recording, or from My recordings) and click Trim. Drag the left handle to where the video should start and the right handle to where it should end. Use Preview to check, then click Save trimmed copy. The original stays in My recordings.

How do I change the keyboard shortcuts?

The defaults are Alt+Shift+V to open Framecap, Alt+Shift+K to pause and Alt+Shift+S to stop. To change them, open chrome://extensions/shortcuts in a new tab.

The MP4 file won’t play

MP4 recordings play in Chrome, Windows Media Player, QuickTime, VLC and on phones. If an old player can’t open it, try VLC. If the MP4 option is greyed out, update Chrome to version 126 or newer, or record in WebM.
